CHICO, Calif. – Thursday night market and the graduation rush has brought lots of business to Downtown Chico. Birkenstock even hit an all-time high.
Over the course of this last week, we reached record high sales,” said Birkenstock employee Daniel Solers. “Not even just for this month, but I want to say a record high in general and thats due to graduation.”
Solers says he hasn’t seen it this busy in years.
Yesterday, I was here and just the entire day there were rushes of grad students in and out, in and out,” said Solers. “Everybody needs to get their new Birkenstocks before they head off to their new chapter in life.
Not only have retail stores been packed, but also Downtown restaurants.
Burgers and Brew has seen even more business than usual since the Thursday Night Market returned.
I would say, since the last Thursday Night Market there hasnt been a single day that the line doesnt touch the street at least at one point of the night, which is awesome,” said Burgers and Brew server Hayden Moore.
Moore says business has been slowly ramping up ever since the mask mandate ended.
Sam Scrogin and Haley Moffat, Chico State alumnae come back to the city every weekend and is excited to see business booming.
Its great to see them thriving again because I know working in the service industry, we got hurt pretty bad during COVID-19, so its really nice seeing people thriving again and not having to worry about it,” said Scrogin.
It makes me excited. I love Chico, its such a fun place and its a great community,” said Moffat. “I have a lot of friends in the service industry, so I love seeing all the businesses thriving here and my friends doing well.
Several businesses in Downtown have even adjusted their hours to stay open longer this weekend to catch more of the graduation crowd.
The last Chico State graduation was Sunday morning with the College of Humanities & Fine Arts and the College of Natural Sciences.
