Hello, A-J readers! You may have seen my name in the bylines of several stories this week and wondered, “who is this person?”
I am Alana Edgin, the new Business Reporter for the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal as of Monday, May 23. I’ve spent this past week rounding up business-relatedstories, and this area certainly keeps me busy.
I graduated with my bachelor’s in journalism from Angelo State University in 2017, where I worked for the student newspaper and occasionally freelanced. After, I joined the San Angelo Standard-Times as a general assignments reporter in 2018 and quickly worked my way through covering entertainment, businesses, city, crime and everything in-between.
During my time there, I discovered my favorite “beat” – business. I find it to be the heartbeat ofany city, impacting the community in various ways. Some of my top articles that are connected to those impacts involved a West Texas dog dumping scandal, troubles between the city and Suddenlink, a historic theatre, and many business openings and closings.
For my first week here, I’ve reported on a preview of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce Business Expo, Vizo’s reopening, and a story on why gas is so expensive. I look forward to covering more of the area news.
I’d also like to encourage people to reach out to me at email@example.com send me a message on Twitter @alana_edgin. Let me know of new businesses, how business is affecting you, or anything else you think people should know about in the South Plains.
I look forward to discovering more of the area, and telling its stories.
